I never thought I would see the day when the Yankees could not afford to sign a player. Gee, the recession must not be over yet.....

Man, the strangest thing happened to me this afternoon ! I'm not into football (pleez don't kick me off the forum ! ) but......at 4:00, I checked out the local stations with the flipper for news, assuming that like ALL of them had the Super Bowl on, but I saw that channel 7 would have news at 4:30. Soooooo.......I decided to watch the Super Bowl commercials while I was waiting. The announcement came like a huuuuge shock to me when I heard......"and The Who will be at half-time !" The poor kitties didn't know what happened to their mom......I was freaking out! I started wailing out my favorite tunes from The Who, and rockin' all over the living room, screaming "Yes, yes !" I actually waited through the rest of the 2nd quarter to see them. Wish Roger had never cut his locks! I thought that they should've shown the band more than the lights, but.....who says "My Generation" rock 'n roll is dead ?! If only we could get Robert Plant to hook up with Led Zep before he kicks the bucket !

That's funny Goldie! It was cool to see ole Pete and Roger. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
project86, I'm sorry your team lost. I know it sucks, I've been there myself.
I went to the bar to watch the game. We all had a great time. Everyone was rooting for the Saints. So for us it was a fantastic game. That onside kick was awesome, I've never seen anything like it.
I'm sitting at the bar and in comes this guy and a young woman. She's like early twenties. I assume she is his daughter, I dunno. So he's buying her beer and making conversation. She lets on she is a college student. Now I realize they don't know each other at all. He asks her what is her field of study, and she says something like literature, or classic writing. He asks her who her favorite authors are. She says Hemingway. He proceeds to tell her all about him and this and that, I think that kinda surprised her a little. Mind you, this is a biker bar. So then he asks her if she has a class tomorrow. And she says, I dunno, what day is tomorrow? I about fell off the barstool I was laughing so hard....
The morning after: Everyone booed Peyton Manning the entire game. But at the same time, we all knew how good he is. He handled the loss graciously.
Drew Brees is good guy too:

Thought it was one of the best, if not the best, Super Bowl I've ever watched. To have the audacity to kick an on-side kick to open the second half - WOW And, to top it all off, the westernmost team won . Drew Brees showed great field awareness, and cool under pressure. Of course, that Manning kid did pretty well himself If not for that one pass, who (no Goldie, not The Who ) knows what the outcome would have been.

I agree with Mariner, the game has to rank right up there at the top as one of the best ever. As for the halftime show, well, to be honest about it, I didn't think it was that great. Maybe nostalgic, but gee whiz, those songs are 40+ years old. I felt embarassed for them. I often wonder about these ancient groups. If they still have passion for music, how come they have never released another song or two. I suppose they are content to ride along with the same old stuff and don't have the nerve to try anything new. I can't respect that. It sucked. Maybe next year they can get Wayne Newton!

I have to agree with you here, the Who really did a bad job. Now don't get me wrong, I used to really like them, but come on now, give me something I have not heard more times than I wanted........ although, I must say the words still ring true today, particularly the last two lines ...... oh yeah, great game by the way!!!
We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgment of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song
I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
And I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again
Change it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fall that's all
But the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they all flown in the last war
I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
And I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again
No, no!
I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
For I know that the hypnotized never lie
Do ya?
There's nothing in the street
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Is now the parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight
I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again
No, no!
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss

I think it shows the more things change, the more they remain the same, as the saying goes! Possibly more relevant today then when the song came out. I also want to point out that hey, I like the Who! I just didn't like the performance. At one point, I wasn't sure Townsend was even playing his guitar, it didn't have that signature sound, especially during those windmill power chords, and I couldn't distinguish one single note. I guess it was the acoustics in that stadium.
More on the superbowl below, especially the onside kick, to me the NFL play of the year. It's very good reading if you're a sports junkie. In case the link goes south, I'll just say the kicker had never tried an onsider before in his life, (he said he was "terrified") and amazingly, Saints head coach Payton informed the officials ahead of time it was coming some time during the game! Man he sure put a lot of trust in those officials! Players from both teams fought for the ball for a minute and a half, which seemed like an eternity, and during that time, each team was awarded the ball. After the game, during the onfield celebration, two nuns in cream and black habits were seen standing on the exact spot where the ball was recovered.

S.F. Giants pitcher signs two year contract for a total of 23 million. Just shy of a million bucks a month.
I'm starting to think maybe I should kick my sports junkie habit. This is just wayyy over the top.
Not only that, I think he was recently busted for weed. If I had that on my record, I don't think I could get a job stuffing chickens in a can.

Actually, if you consider the length of the season (including pre-season), it's a h of a lot more than a million a month. After working just about every day since I was 14, that just seems obscene

Thats all Ive ever known is the Indianapolis Colts, but I must say that they had an outstanding team as the Baltimore Colts...Hopefully they can win just one more Super Bowl before Peyton Manning leaves...

SOUR GRAPES ABOUT COLTS LEAVING....It was along time now/When the clevelandbrowns left city that supported theirteam with eellouts. i thought pro football had gone toofar.bringing the browns to Baltimore was even worse than the the COLTS leaving us.I didn't watch pro football for 3 yrs.Slowly Iaccepted the Ravens as a new addition to Baltimore.THEY STILL AINT THE COLTS.I am glad tobe rid of Ursay.Indianapolis has been a good home for the colts

Raz, I read about it this morning. That's really a shame that happened, especially with him having the Gold easily in hand. I was watching women's skiing and one woman crashed about twenty feet out of the starting gate! Olympic dreams can go down in smoke in a hurry....

McNabb to the REDSKINS??? It wasn't all that surprising he was traded, but sending him to a division rival means the Eagles will play against him two times each year! That should be very interesting. As an Eagles fan, I've followed his entire career. I was watching when he got booed immediately after being drafted. (welcome to Philly!) He had a great run, but couldn't get over the hump, couldn't win the big one. Of course, that's not all on him. But he played very poorly in the last two games last season against Dallas when the Eagles got their clock cleaned. I think it wasn't so much his play as it was the way he acted that kept him from being all that popular in Philly. The infamous "air guitar" thing really helped punch his ticket out of town, I think. I've never seen a quarterback aka team leader act like that. I was really disappointed in that. I would have liked to have seen him go to the Vikings, just to see what he could do with that team, and maybe I'm a little tired of the Farve thing too. Oh well, baseball season starts for Philly in about three hours!

We're all rooting for our Nugget's right now, as the NBA playoffs draw near. One of their players, Chris (birdman) Anderson just bought a home a few doors down from me. As evidenced by his photograph, he's a colorful character.
